Sound installation

solar-powered sound modules, light sensors, motors, found iron cast objects and hard coal

Hin und Wieder (Once in a While) draws with coal the shadows cast through the front windows of Sayner Hütte, a former metallurgical plant in Bendorf, Germany. Alongside the coal , a multichannel solar-powered sound piece comes to life as sensors meet the shifting light. The sounds of the installation are inspired from fragments of the Lux Aeterna chant from the Graduale Romanum as a response to the building's Gothic-inspired architecture. Together, light, sound, and coal act as a map of the rhythms and history of the place.
