Sound installation
solar-powered sound modules, light sensors, motors, found iron cast objects and hard coal
Hin und Wieder (Once in a While) traces the path of sunlight through the front windows of the Sayner Hütte, a former metallurgical plant in Bendorf, Germany. Coal records these movements, while a solar-powered sound piece activates when sensors are exposed to sunlight. The sound composition draws from fragments of the Lux Aeterna chant from the Graduale Romanum (1974, p. 676, Liturgia defunctorum). The chant responds to the building's Gothic-inspired structure, industrial in function, yet shaped like a church. Hin und Wieder connects light, sound, and material to explore the rhythms of a day and the memory of a site, examining how past and present, nature and architecture, continue to shape one another.
